Imagine a classroom of 7th graders working with a local contractor and engineer
to design and model a city of the future.
Or a 4th grade classroom working with a biologist to develop ideas to protect an endangered species of the Colorado Plateau.
Or an Indigenous artist teaching sustainability and the use of natural materials
and dyes to high school art students.
That’s the premise behind Full STEAM Ahead . . . bringing local professionals into classrooms to open the world of STEM possibilities to students.

STEAM Professionals & Educators
STEM City is recruiting classrooms and professionals in Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) to provide hands-on educational experiences
for 3rd-12th grade students during the 22-23 school year.
Full STEAM Ahead is a collaboration in which local teachers and professionals further STEAM education within a classroom. Teachers, students, and professionals will meet once or twice monthly to complete lessons and activities
designed to help students develop a project by semester or year-end.
An orientation to help plan a curriculum schedule and introduce pairings will take place in September,
followed by partnership planning and once or twice monthly activities. The anticipated time commitment
is one to two hours of planning and preparation plus approximately one hour of class time per session.
STEM City board members will be available throughout the school year to support planning efforts as needed.
Students will gain practical knowledge and opportunities to connect in-class learning with real world applications. Through constructive and problem-based learning, students will gain insight into future career paths,
enrich their education, and practice interdisciplinary learning through STEAM applications.
Professionals will gain opportunities by sharing their knowledge with a broader range of the Flagstaff community.
They will also have opportunities to inspire students to pursue STEAM careers and help students understand
the applicability of the curriculum they are learning.
