Full STEAM Ahead!
Connecting youth with STEAM professionals
Think back to a time in your childhood when you were inspired by a teacher or a mentor. Maybe you had a family friend with an engineering career that fascinated you, or your 3rd grade teacher led a memorable science experiment that you tell stories about still to this day.
Imagine if you could cultivate that same sense of awe and inspiration in a local classroom. What would you teach? What would you share? These formative years are a crucial time to encourage inventiveness, innovation, and curiosity in the youth of today and the future of tomorrow.
That is the premise behind Full STEAM Ahead: to bring local professionals into Flagstaff’s classrooms to share the world of STEM with our future innovators and inventors.

What is Full STEAM Ahead?
Full STEAM Ahead is a Flagstaff STEM City program wherein local teachers and professionals collaborate to further STEAM education in the classroom. These STEAM classes will meet once or twice a month to complete lessons and activities designed to help students develop a project by the end of a semester or year.
Students will gain practical knowledge and opportunities to connect in-class learning with real- world applications. Through constructive, problem-based learning, they will garner insights into future career paths, enrich their education, and practice interdisciplinary learning via STEAM applications.

Calling all teachers and STEAM professionals! Get involved today.
By being part of Full STEAM Ahead, teachers will enhance their curriculum, deepen student learning, and build stronger ties to the Flagstaff community. All teachers are life-long learners at heart, and they will have the opportunity to learn about topics they may not have otherwise researched by collaborating with a local colleague.
Professionals also will foster connections by sharing their knowledge with a broader range of the Flagstaff community. They will also have opportunities to inspire students to pursue STEAM careers and help them understand the applicability of the curriculum they are learning.

The "A" in STEAM
believe that cross-pollination with the Arts community is instrumental as long as it is targeted on and compliments the declared area of focus. Specifically, STEM is expressed through, or utilized in the creation of, art. For example:
- Digital photography and graphic design are heavily used in STEM
- Some artists deliberately utilize mathematics and concepts like the Golden Ratio in their creations
- Music is math rendered audible
