The CocoNuts finished 3rd overall in the competition and went on to Captain the 2nd seeded alliance. They made it all the way to the finals and took 2nd place overall in the competition. They also received the Innovation in Control Award which celebrates an innovative control system or application of control components such as electrical, mechanical, or software, to provide unique machine function. “Even though their bot refused to listen at first, this team never lost sight of the goal while evading defenders. In a nutshell, this team’s innovation allows their bot to go NUTS on the tarmac!” Colorado Regional Judges |
Utah Regional—Salt Lake City, April 7–9, 2022
The CocoNuts finished 2nd overall in the rankings against some very competitive teams, and captained the 2nd seeded alliance. In the finals, they lost the first match and won the second to take it to a third tie breaker match, losing that match by a very close margin. They were honored with the highest award in the competition, the Utah Regional Chairman's Award which honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST. The Chairman’s Award is presented to the team judged to have the most significant measurable impact among its participants and community over a sustained period, not just a single build season. The winner is able to demonstrate progress towards FIRST’s mission of transforming our culture. “This team’s outreach, mentoring, and community service are impressive examples of FIRST principles. From sustainability, financial support and advocacy for the underserved, these young adults are colorful examples of the true FIRST spirit that will leave a legacy. In a NUTSHELL, we are Nuts about these ambassadors of FIRST.” Utah Regional Judges |
