Entrepreneurial Engineer Joseph Davidson helps Sinagua Middle School teacher Jillian Worssam’s Oceanography Club build an ROV! Joseph Davidson, owner of Electric LIFE Engineering (ElectricLIFEEngineering.com) has lived in Flagstaff for more than 17 years. He graduated from Northern Arizona University with a major in electrical engineering and is now working toward his Master’s degree while he operates Electric Life Engineering, a product design and engineering consulting business. His other new venture is starting a community workshop called Local Works (FlagLocalWorks.com ). Joseph’s experience includes design and construction of medical manufacturing equipment at Blockwise Engineering, Information Technology work at Northern Arizona University, and machinist work at Northern Arizona Tool. Before starting his consulting business, Joseph was an engineer at the start-up company Motor Excellence for 4 years. At Motor Excellence he helped in the design and construction of a new technology of electric motors. Joseph continually plays an active role promoting and encouraging engineering at the local University and in the Flagstaff area, including volunteering in Jillian’s oceanography club each Thursday afternoon. He has played a critical role in helping these middle school students build and trouble-shoot a remotely-operated-vehicle to be deployed in the Pacific Ocean during the club field trip to San Diego the end of April.
Jillian Worssam was selected as Flagstaff’s first STEM Educator-of-the-Year in 2012. She has lived in Flagstaff for over 18 years. Prior to teaching 8th grade Science at Sinagua Middle School, Jillian taught at Project New Start for 3 years, and at Grand Canyon Unified School District for 8 years. Jillian was selected as a PolarTREC teacher (www.polartrec.com) in 2008, working with oceanographers aboard the RV Healy in the Bering Sea. She has participated in numerous teacher professional development opportunities. Jillian’s passion for science and her dedication to quality education for all students is paramount.
